;DGood morning all, Our little Eliot is a first generation puggle and black. I have noticed that most of the puggles listed here are fawn, are black ones that uncommon? Does anyone here have a second (or third) generation puggle? If you do, does it look like its parents or has it taken on the look of more beagle or pug? Thanks in advance for answers. I love that I feel comfortable enough here to ask. Have a great day.

I think all black Puggles are definately more rare than the Fawn color, but the black ones are so cute! Callie is definately more beagle than Pug, although there are more Pug traits coming through as she gets older.

Black puggles can come from a black pug parent or one who has black close up in their pedigree. They're a bit harder to find than the fawn or golden puggles but not what I'd call rare. I'm a breeder and my pups are all fawn or golden. The reason for that is very simple. I prefer the lighter colors myself and since I don't breed without deposits on a litter PRIOR to breeding, I find it takes a little anxiety away from my clients because they know what color the pups will be. I also find most of the people who contact me are only interested in fawn pups. My stud ONLY has fawn in 8 generations so he will not produce a black pug or puggle.
You'll find puggles that have more pug or beagle characteristics and those that really look like a puggle. It's all in the genetic roll of the dice. Second Generation puggles are still a 50/50 pug and beagle mix (true 2nd gen. puggle has two puggle parents) but the genes blend a bit differently. THey'll look like puggles, beagles or pugs and all sort of color combinations may occur.

Like KentuckyPuggles said, each puggle will have different characteristics and you cannot predict what they will be. CoCo is an all black puggle and if you look at her straight on from the front, she looks like a black pug. When she turns and you see her profile, she is definitely puggle. She also has the curly cue tail like a pug. I've always joked that her Beagle sniffer is broken because she can't ever sniff out her toys, but she is my super cute baby.

My Puggle is black because mom is a tri-color beagle and dad is a black pug (that went back a few generations)...so, she took her coloring from daddy!

I like the look of the fawn and my TUcker is getting darker as time goes on. I would like a tri color next but clack would be great for my black futon since they shed!

My puggle, Lucy, is black with a white spot on her chest. I have never seen another black puggle. She is definitely more pug then beagle. She is 14 but she still acts like a puppy.
